Asphalt vs Concrete for Parking lots

Just like our driveway offerings, we get asked all of the time how much better asphalt is compared to concrete. The benefits are extremely similar. The benefits include:
  • Durability - Over time both asphalt and concrete will both age. Asphalt is typically better for colder climates where salt is found to try and melt snow. This salt is very hard on any surface but the durability of asphalt really shines here. Concrete can become pitted and eventually lead to total failure. Asphalt can crack as well but is significantly easier and cheaper to repair.
  • Visibility - Asphalt's dark color is a great contrast to white or yellow parking lines. We offer parking line services regardless of the material, but our asphalt customers are typically more satisfied with the end result because of the paving material they chose. If you want bright, vibrant lines that your customers can easily see, asphalt is the best choice.
  • Maintenance cost - The cost to own asphalt is significantly less than concrete. As mentioned earlier, both can develop cracks with asphalt being the easier and cheaper to repair. Concrete with high weights being traveled over top of it can shift and buckle. If this happens and creates a tripping hazard, the establishment could be held liable. Asphalt often is forgiving and doesn't naturally create these trip hazards.
We hope that this was enough to convince you to use Sterling Heights Asphalt for your establishment's parking lot. If you have any more questions or are curious on a quote, give us a call!
